NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

Congratulations to the Rhode Island recipients of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Affiliate Award for Aspirations in Computing – Amaya (Woonsocket Career  and Technical Center), Cassandra (North Kingstown HS), Emily (Scituate HS), Emma (Middletown HS), Josephine (Scituate HS), Kendra (Smithfield Senior HS), Leslie (Newport Area Career And Technical Center), Rochelle (Davies Jr. Career and Technical HS), Sree Poorvika (La Salle Academy), and Tatyana (Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center).

The award honors young women in grades 9 through 12 who are active and interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are chosen for their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post‑secondary education.

Two Rhode Island educators  – Nancy Koczera (Woonsocket High School) and Joe Mazzone (Davies Jr. Career and Technical High School) – were also honored with the Aspirations in Computing Educator Award for their encouragement of high school women’s interest and participation in technology pursuits.
